My local garden centre cheered me up this week with their lovely display of colourful flowers.
Beautiful red and mauve Azaleas,
Lavender with a lovely replica bee hive (the French Lavender is just coming into bloom on the left),
Just after taking these photos it poured down again so I had to run inside. I was really only browsing but I did buy a pot of Sweet Pea seedlings to supplement the ones I have grown at home. These will go to my allotment to be used as cut flowers as their scent is so lovely in the house.

Hello my lovely friend, Your photos are gorgeous! What beautiful flowers! The azaleas are so pretty. Ours bloomed last month and I sure do miss them! I love stock. I planted some, but they won't last much longer as we have extremely hot and humid summers. The colors are stunning and I can imagine their fragrance. You captured them beautifully! The lavender looks wonderful too! I have one that is doing very well. I love their fragrance and the bees love them. The bunny rabbit plants (such a darling name) are beautiful as well. They are labeled as snapdragons here and are one of my favorite flowers. They grow well in the autumn, winter and spring, but will not survive our summers, same with the pretty pansies! I really loved seeing your local garden center and I am glad you brought home some sweet peas. I waited too late to plant any, as we have to plant them in November for spring blooming. Do all of these flowers grow all summer there in England? I am thinking they do well since your climate is so much milder than ours is here in the south. ReplyDeleteHi Paula. We also call the Antirrhinums snapdragons but my Dad used to call them bunny rabbit plants when he used to grow them (I'll have to ask him why). Although they are annuals they often survive if we have a mild winter but would not normally be flowering yet. I had a beautiful tangarine colour one last year which I really hope comes up again. I have saved some seed but I don't know if they come true from seed. My French Lavender is just coming into bud but the English Lavender will flower later in the summer. Although the stock is in flower at the garden centre this has been brought on early and I wouldn't put it out yet as we could still have frosts (especially the further north you go). I've just worked out that my bedroom was last decorated about 18 years ago so I need say no more!

I usually buy pink ones, but there is a lady down the road from me that has a plant sale and her prices are very reasonable, so I purchased a big pot of yellow ones. They are so cheerful! I have saved snapdragon seeds before and planted them, but they did not come up. I hope yours do! I look forward to seeing your lavender plants. Oh my, I cannot imagine still having a frost this time of year. Dearest, it is very hot and humid here already! My hubby has been having to water the garden. We sure could use some of your rain! I think it is time for a bedroom makeover! A few years ago we purchased new bedroom furniture and it was the first we ever had in our 23 years of marriage. I was so happy! We had just had mattresses and a bed frame my hubby made all those years. The new mattress really make a difference! xo~Paula

ReplyDeleteThanks Heather. This rain really is getting very depressing! I actually went out in the rain to pot up my Dahlias but came in very wet, cold and muddy. I have a garden shed but there's so much stuff in there it's impossible to find space to move!
DeleteHi Jacqui: You just showed another of my favorite, fragrant flowers, besides lilac, stock. I know you've heard already that we call bunny rabbit, snapdragons. We used to play with them as kids, by pulling them off the plants, which made mom very unhappy, and make them into talking puppets. Beautiful pictures and I'm sure a sweet distraction from the rain..We have sunshine today..Happy Weekend..Judy
