A Trip to London

I visited London on Wednesday and chanced upon this 'Shot-Put' sculpture as part of the Olympic celebrations.

The news reports the previous evening were saying how quiet London was but that wasn't my experience walking along the embankment near Westminster.
There were carousel rides,

candy floss sellers,
popcorn sellers
and the lion on Westminster Bridge was surveying all the crowds.
Long queues for the London Eye (which I still haven't been on),

and lots of people photographing and admiring our beautiful 'Big Ben'

and of course it wouldn't have been London without the festive bunting!
Unfortunately my visit to London was to attend an appointment to plan my Radiotherapy treatment which starts in 2 weeks time. I'm pleased to say that the results from my last op show that my breast cancer hasn't spread to my lymph nodes but I now have to undergo 5 weeks of Radiotherapy travelling up to London everyday (weekends off for good behaviour). I'm planning to make the most of the next few weeks before it starts and then if I feel okay use my visits to London to plan some days out with my children while they are still on their summer holidays.
This weekend I'm planning to do some sewing as they are away for a few days camping (nice quiet house)!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and manage to fit in some time to relax.

  1. Hi Jacqui: I'm happy you got to see the sights around London, but so sorry for the reason that you were there. But, with that being said, it's a good thing that you are going through the treatments as that's going to help get rid of the horrible stuff. Your schedule sounds just like my daughter's was, and it sounds like you and she were at the same stage of the illness and it went by pretty fast and it is all good now. I can imagine that's going to seem like a long time because you have to go so far away and so often, but take your handiwork and it will keep you busy..I'm thinking of you all the time..Happy Weekend..Judy

    1. Thank you for your kind words Judy. Although I'm not looking forward to the travelling, the treatment itself won't take long each day and all being well I can start to get back to normality in the Autumn. Most of all I'm really missing digging and tending my allotment although we are still getting plenty of produce from it. Just so many weeds which is a bit disheartening after all the hard work getting on top of it all!

  6. Hello Jacqui, I am very happy to hear that your last op showed that your cancer has not spread . . . you are in my prayers. Your photos of London are beautiful, it is such a lovely city. I love the quaintness of the candy floss and the popcorn carts. Americans have lost that cute touch.
In regard to the comment you left on my blog: I'm very happy that you like my ideas. Yes, I am tired and need a rest. The older I get the more time it takes to re-coop after a project like this. Are you a hat collector? I have so many in hat boxes, but I love to have some on display, too. If you nail or glue a square block of wood to the base of a section of chair rail and a smaller square or circle at the top . . . you have a hat stand. Also if you find a dowel the size of a candle and glue it into a candle holder, then glue a square or circle of wood on top of that, you have another hat stand. It's simple and can be gorgeous when you keep your eyes open for lovely thrift store candle holders and broken cheap or free chairs. Have fun with it! Have a great week and keep your chin up, Connie :)

  8. Hi Jacquie, the photos are really fab, although your reason for visiting wasn't the best to say the least, you did get to share some of the atmosphere down there. I pray that your treatment goes well for you, I'm sure everyone knows someone who has gone through what you will be going through and can empathise. God bless, get the next few weeks over and hopefully you can put it all behind you. X
